Welcome!  We are proud to present Virtual NATO's Air Force.  The first Virtual Flightsim company with a visually designed website, where you can navigate through halls, rooms, offices and computers by clicking on visual objects.  Each department is designed to emulate real NATO operations so you can experience the complete Virtual NATO environment from the comfort of Microsoft Flight Simulator.

It’s early morning at the NATO AWACS air base in Geilenkirchen, Germany. Here in one of our offices you will find many clickable objects like doors books and maps where you can access important information and checklists or navigate to other rooms and aircraft hangars.

At NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium you can read about many military aircraft such as the SU-24 Fencer, or other interesting topics like Stealth technology.  Even information about the biggest and fastest submarines can be found here. There is plenty of reading material here you can take along with you on those long late night missions!

Of course you will need an airplane.  You will find them located in our hangar at Geilenkirchen.  All new Virtual NATO pilots start their career flying the Citation 650, 750.  A great twin engine business jet that is operated by real world NATO members and is designed for passenger and VIP flights.

Later, you can advance to the C-40 Clipper.  A nice USN Boeing 737-700.  If that’s not big enough you can get checked out on the TCA and E-3A aircraft where you will fly special cargo and AEW missions.  You can even get a rating to fly the C-5 galaxy, one of the world’s biggest cargo airplanes. A division of AAR Tankers is also here.   If flying fighters is your passion, you can earn ratings to fly various jet fighters such as the F-5, F-16, F-18 and Tornado just to name a few.

You must log a certain number of flight hours and complete a check ride before getting a rating for bigger airplanes.  Visit the Virtual NATO academy to complete a check ride.  You can have ratings for all aircraft at same time.

We also have radar-positions for AWACS crews to use that log hours just like a pilot does.  Only for VATSIM

Before you fly a mission you need to visit one of the briefing rooms.  Here you will find the mission computer where you can select aircraft located in various NATO countries, and each aircraft has a unique and exciting mission assigned to it.  Simply select one and start mission planning.  Briefing rooms also have connections where you can access global weather information and RouteFinder, a fight planner program to help you with create your flight plan.

For pilots using VATSIM you will find radar screens where you can check current online traffic and ATC services.

The mission computer is connected to all 45 Virtual NATO aircraft.  Each aircraft has it’s own life with real-world registrations.  Aircraft have to be flown from where they landed the previous flight.  With so many aircraft to choose from, you can easily find an airplane and flight you would enjoy from over 120 different bases and thousands of missions.  It is also possible to take an airplane to your hometown even if it is not a Virtual NATO base.

As with all real aircraft, our fleet also needs periodic maintenance and service.  Routine service interval checks will keep the airplane grounded from 10 hours to 14 days, depending on what check is required.  The mission computer tracks flight hours and will tell you when an airplane needs to be flown into one of our 16 service-bases located in the USA and Europe.

Maybe you just need to relax after flying hours in bad weather and rough approaches?  The Sentry Club in Geilenkirchen is one of the pleasures where pilots can go and enjoy music.  For safety reasons, remember to complete your mission and check in your aircraft before you enter the club.

Virtual NATO is proud of their high quality, professional membership.  We are a certified Virtual Airline Special Operations (VASO) member with VATSIM and require all members to pass both a theoretical and practical test to join.  Although English is the primary language used during flight operations, it is not a requirement to be fluent in English to join Virtual NATO.  If you’re looking for an exciting challenge flying military aircraft emulating real world military operations, you’ve come to the right place!
